The WSK Euro Series has become the reference point for top-level international karting. Tristan competed in two events last year and now two events this year. The young American has showed great pace in all conditions at each event. This past weekend he made another step forward. Tristan not only made the finals, but started from 21st in pre final and made his way to up to finish 12th setting times faster than the leaders. The sole U.S.A representative in KF3, found problems with contact in the opening lap of the final, but bounced back to finish a respectable 20th.
Making the final in Europe versus making a final in America is quite a difference. Over half the drivers will not make the final in the WSK. In America, typically everyone makes the final. Throw in arguably the worlds best drivers chaos, contact, added aggression and variable weather, Tristan is learning to survive in the most extreme conditions.
Last month Tristan traveled to Zuera, Spain for the 3rd round of the WSK Euro series. Tristan made a couple of quick introductions to his new team members and teammates at Ward Racing then hit the track for testing. It didn’t take long for him to fit in. The team resides in Sweden and has been competing at the top international series for many years.
“Changing from Kosmic to Tony Kart has very little difference since they are made by the same manufacturer. I can’t say enough good things about Joakim Ward the owner of Ward Racing. I’ve quickly made friends with the other drivers and really enjoy being a part of this team. One great thing about Joakim is that he is very dedicated and always remains calm.”
After the weekend testing and a couple of short days Tristan met Jan Koski. Jan would be the mechanic the team appointed for Tristan. Jan is from Finland and so far the two have been working well together. In both races the speed has been very good in all conditions. “We missed the final in Zuera despite being really fast. A mistake in qualifying buried us for the short 6-lap heat races and that was a little too much to overcome.”
Next up was round 4 in Genk, Belgium. Knowing that a good result in Zuera was obtainable, Tristan was eager to be back on European soil.
“Genk was the sight of a very difficult race last year when I fractured my rib. I wanted to go back and redeem myself. So it was great to make it through to the finals. My next goal is the podium!”
